Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have a referral from another doctor?

Your GP usually will have a particular question in mind when asking you to see a consultant cardiologist.  The referral letter may also contain essential information about your past medical history, and details of drug allergies, etc.  Whilst this is not absolutely essential, it is recommended in most cases, and will help me in my initial consultation with you.  Most insurance companies demand a referral from a GP before insurance cover is provided.

I am visiting from overseas and do not have a GP. What should I do?

You can still make an appointment to see me (contact the clinics on the numbers provided on this site).  Please bring as much information about yourself as you can to the appointment.  It would be particularly helpful to bring:  details of any previous heart investigations and/or consultations, details of any previous operations, a list of medication that you may be taking, a list of any allergies.  You may also be asked for proof of identity and proof of ability to pay.

Should I bring someone with me to the consultation?

Many people find it helpful to have a family member or friend with them, but you do not need to be accompanied.  You may also find it helpful to bring with you a list of questions you would like to discuss with me.

What happens after the consultation?

I will send a letter to you and your GP/referring doctor.  This will detail my assessment and proposed investigation or treatment plan as appropriate.  This may include a suggestion of a follow up appointment if necessary.

I am not insured. Can I still see you?

Yes.  I am happy to see you, and the fees charged are available from my secretary on 020-7467 5470.   However, you should be aware that if tests or treatment are required, this can become very costly.

What happens if you need to refer me to a consultant in another area of expertise?

I am fortunate to work with some extremely talented colleagues and will be able to refer you to some of London’s greatest experts in their fields, if necessary.

What will happen if I need to be admitted?

It is rare for patients to require admission, but occasionally this happens.  In this case, I will admit you to the Harley Street Clinic, 35 Weymouth Street, London W1G 8BJ.  Occasionally, I may admit you to the London Clinic, 20 Devonshire Place, London W1G 6BW.

What do I do if I have a suggestion or complaint?

Please feel free to discuss any issue directly with me in the first instance.  For further information please see the London Medical website.
